From Seed Savers

“Hardy variety, productive even I zone 3. works for boiling and steaming. Available as early as 1825 from seedsman such as Sinclair & Moore of Baltimore. With its silvered, cut leaves reahing 3-5' tall and bearing multiple flower heads with a purple tinge when in bud and ready to harvest, this variety is as beautiful as it is productive. the artichokes are ready for eating around 75 days after transplanting, but an occassioal inflorescense left to flower in the garden is a welcome sight as well. ”
