To Enjoy the Land
Despite working on the land every week, Dan and I don’t often just sit and take it all in. With family visiting, we put our soil knives and garden gloves away, instead letting our rumps rest in the lawn chairs that are so rarely used. Cicadas buzzing, red headed woodpeckers quickly flying overhead, bee balm blooming…it’s all so peaceful. We munched on fresh garden peas and wild berries, and I found myself settling in to the place.
Coming back to the city, I now am painfully aware of the ever-present vehicle sounds. Helicopters flying over and English Sparrows with their persistent churp. With the addition of clogged drains, and a busted drain pipe resulting in the bathroom flooding of our rental, I think we’re both feeling the urgency to move.
